Chew one of the modest looking leaves and wow – a cucumber explosion! Great in salads, with beans and chopped into creamy dips. It’s also good in drinks: I like it in a cocktail with gin, soda water, lemon and a dash of elderflower. Or popping some leaves in with your classic G & T works really well.
Handily, the leaves keep growing throughout the winter – so you can pretend it’s summer all year round. Grow in sun or partial shade, indoors or outdoors. Keep the plant well trimmed and remove flowers to produce a regular supply of fresh leaves. New ones look amazing when they unfurl, like green lacework. It’s also a good source of vitamin C and a digestion aid.
